Home Stay

So this weekend I had an opportunity to stay in the home of one of the residence of Saijo City. The family I was placed with was great! The mom and dad owned a fairly large house for Japan and the mom also owned two restaurants. I felt like I never stopped eating the entire weekend...
They also had a daughter named Yuki who acted like a translator between me and her parents. The dad didn't get home until Sunday morning and I didn't get to talk to him that much. He ate breakfast with us, laughed at me when I was trying to eat my sunny side up egg with chop sticks, then left to go golf. I thought I was going pretty good with the chop sticks, thank you very much!
The girls took me up into the mountains to a noodle place. It was beautiful. Despite the rain, it was great. The scenery that is. There was nice water falls and landscaping. As for lunch, I thought I picked a soup, but instead I got two fish on a stick, tofu on a stick and some brown, transparent, sparkling jelly thing on a stick. I was very tiered of eating fish, but I thought, "Jen, suck it up, you are going to eat every!"
Everything was pretty good until I got to the brown, translucent, sparking thing. I asked what it was, but didn't get a definite answer. So I took a bit. I really wanted to spit it out or make a face, but I tried to be polite. As I was trying to chew and swallow, I was thinking, "wow, I think this is what a rubber band would taste like if I ever wanted to eat one." It was totally disgusting!!! I asked them if they liked it and they both said yes. :{
Aside from the brown glob, all the other food I ate this weekend was wonderful. Although my host family didn't take me to any really cool places, I had a good visit and even got to experience Karaoke.
