Breaking the News

So I decided to tell my students today. I put up a hang man game on the board that when spelled out would read, "Mrs. Wayland is pregnant!" They were smart enough to figure out the the ---.------- spelled Mrs. Wayland. By the time I had most of my name and the P A and T of pregnant spelled out some of them realized what I was spelling. They started to gasp and smile. Still most of them didn't have a clue, so we kept spelling. Then all but 4 boys figured it out. Finally we spelled it out and I got a full mix of reactions. I got girls jumping up and down, one girl's mouth hung open and looked at me as if I had alien antenna coming out my head, and I even had one boy say, "Eww, that's gross!" The rest of the class kind of jumped on him about that comment because they were excited. :) The girl that was "in shock" was really excited and told pretty much everyone she could. It was really fun to tell them and most of them are happy for me. One of them even said, "I've never had a teacher that was pregnant." I replied with, "You say that like it's a bad thing." No apparently she thought it was really cool!
